Found it, the one I was thinking of is the 3May2014-2 version at the bottom of #7 in https://forum.pjrc.com/threads/25587-RF22-wireless-library-replaced-with-quot-RadioHead-quot-lib-For-RFM69-RFM22-Si4432-wireless?p=46412#post46412. It still works using IDE 1.6.3 on Linux, haven't tried it on 1.0.6.
Unless they've been changed recently (my boards are about a year old) the Mini Wireless boards come with the Diecimila/Duemilanove boot loader. Picking "Arduino Duemilanove w/ ATmega328" works for me. Steve C. posted a very useful first time sketch built on top of the RadioHead library. You can load the same sketch on two boards and it will automatically flip the addresses so they can talk to each other. I can't seem to currently find it online, Steve can probably help.
