I didn't know that there was a clear dividing line between flash and EEPROM, because some devices called themselves "flash" might be erased on a per-byte basis. However, the trend today seems to be to use the term "EEPROM" for devices that are capable of erasing by byte and "flash" for devices that only support mass erasing.
